Updated Review: Weston replaced the handle promptly with no need to ship the defective item back to them. Thus zero additional cost to me to have fully functional grinder. I have used this grinder to prepare 'Raw Diet' cat food (cats are loving it!) and ground chuck for burgers. The #10 grinder has no problem grinding chicken bones.Just an FYI - partially freeze the meat before grinding. I have not really enjoyed ground meat products since reading Upton Sinclair some fifty years ago. Looking forward to sausage making and knowing EXACTLY what we are consuming! lol**********Original Review Below********Thought I would try to address issues raised in other reviews in order to help others. All components were well made except for one:The handle I received had a large knot in the turned wood. The open knot was large/deep enough to present a hazard for cleaning and splinters in the palm! I have attached a photo. If Weston Products responds appropriately- (simply ships another handle @ no charge to me) I will update this review. Otherwise, I think you have a clear indication of their feelings regarding quality control. In that case, I will simply repair this poorly produced handle. Stripping the finish, filling the void with wood putty, sanding smooth to restore desired contours, and finally applying several coats of polyethylene varnish should do the trick! It is a pity their supplier failed to reject such a visible defect from the component stream.Otherwise, this product seems to be well made and is quite sturdy. I expect to get many years of productive use from this grinder.Every user should follow the instructions provided: Wash all components in warm water with a mild soap. Hand wash only. While Weston calls for application of food grade silicon protective film after washing, I prefer to use spray-on olive oil to protect against rust.
